Crate.io provides all functions of the database under the Apache 2.0 open source license in the self-deploy version of CrateDB release 4.5. Developers should be able to develop add-ons or extensions themselves. “Working directly with our open source community also provides us with valuable feedback that we incorporate into our long-term product development. In the future, our commercial focus will be on providing CrateDB as a fully managed cloud service to our customers,“ explains Crate.io CEO Eva Schönleitner.
New features in v4. 5
In version 4.5 of the Community Edition, the usage restriction on three nodes was removed. In addition, users can now access user management functions for multiple database users as well as the configuration of permissions, security, encryption and authentication. All mentioned features were previously reserved for the Enterprise Edition. In addition, the current version includes performance optimizations, enhanced compatibility with PostgreSQL tool, improved error messages and deep SQL support.
“Crate has always had an open-core model, but this allows us to clearly document how much we value the value and contribution of the community. The use of a creative, active and inclusive open source community has always been the pulse of Crate, without open source Crate would never have been possible,“ explains Crate.io-CTO Bernd Dorn.
Availability
CrateDB v4.5 is now available for download as a self-deploy version. Alternatively, a cloud version is also available.
