The parents of the famous Burnout saga and some of the latest Need for Speed are preparing a driving game that is not limited to cars. This game will be compatible with Oculus Rift and, according to its creators, it will be “the best Oculus game you will ever play”. Of course, they do not lack ambition to make such a statement.
At the moment there is very little we know about this game, which has the working title of Beyond Cars. In the video you can see some in-game scenes of the current prototype, and we see that they drive MX motorcycle-type vehicles. According to TrustedReviews (which by the way has put a photo of vrAse instead of Oculus Rift), the game still has two years of development left, but Criterion CEO Matt Webster has things very clear by now. “We think it’s the best Oculus game you’ll ever play,” he says. To add later “It’s something super immersive, and I can tell you firsthand that playing this game in virtual reality is going to be amazing jo***mind”. Anyway, it’s nice to see a director so enthusiastic about his product. But he still has to say more things about virtual reality: “It’s a new technology, and we love playing with new things. VR is new and exciting, and since we have a first-person game, it won’t be a big difficulty for us to experiment with VR. It’s something new and consistent with what we’re building, so we’re going to try to make it work.”
