The multiplayer experience produced by Remote Control Productions (rcp) and developed by Aesir Interactive will be released later this year on the Hologate VR system
Das Boot VR is based on the German film and in the next tv series of the same name, directed by Andreas Prochaska and co-produced by Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment, using motifs of the novels “Das Boot” and “Die Festung” written by Lothar-Günther Buchheim. The experience will be released at the same time as the TV series.
In “Das Boot”, the VR experience dates back to 1942, to command a German class VII type World War II submarine and complete a dangerous mission based on historical facts. In the North Sea, the crew are hunting a convoy of allied freighters, but instead encounter a British destroyer. In a desperate dive maneuver, the crew attempts to escape, but the destroyer’s fierce attack does not allow them to. In this immersive scenario, up to 4 players will have no choice but to work hand-in-hand under pressure or sink into the dark depths of the sea.
The Hologate system is perfectly suited to allow players to experience the tension of naval warfare and confinement under the sea in the most immersive way possible.
“We’re interested in the first Das Boot gaming experience coming to the Hologate platform, which can really make players feel the pressure of war underwater,” says Hendrik Lesser, managing director of Remote Control Productions.
The system allows a cooperative multiplayer configuration for 1-4 players, which adapts to the 4 different functions offered by the U-612 station experience, such as the periscope, steering and torpedo room.
According to Hendrik Lesser, the experience is only a beginning and they are considering the possibility of taking this experience to other platforms, as a long-term commitment of Remote Control Productions.
