The return of a classic is being prepared wherever there are, none other than Descent, and it is done by the hand of a team of developers led by Eric Peterson, former president of production of Star Citizen and creator of video games since 1984.
The arrival of Descent in 1995 was a revolution, since it went one step beyond Doom, allowing totally 3D environments with 360º freedom compared to the 2.5D mode used by the classic id Software. In the game we had to travel through labyrinthine scenarios in gravity 0 aboard a small spaceship, with the aim of escaping from each level by previously destroying the reactor. Descent garnered a lot of praise and has a whole legion of followers, in fact there is a version compatible with Oculus Rift created by the community.
Both the original game and its two sequels are already very far back in time, so Eric Peterson, the face of the Star Citizen Wingmen’s Hangar videos, has gathered a group of developers, great veterans of the industry, many of whom have also worked on both the classic Wing Commander and the ambitious Star Citizen, who have decided to launch the adventure of relaunching Descent.
Descent Underground is a prequel, therefore taking place before the events of the first Descent and preparing the ground for it. Unreal Engine 4 has been the chosen engine, and versions for Oculus Rift and Gear VR are planned. The game will have multiplayer modes, including online cooperative and competitive modes, in addition, as it could not be otherwise, an individual mode.
The Earth is overpopulated, dying of thirst, ravaged by war and disasters, both natural and man-made. As an elite pilot, the resources we collect will mean the difference between life and death for millions of people. On our wings rest the destinies of gigantic corporate empires fighting for the spoils of what were once glorious nations.
We will have to get water, minerals and precious metals that we will have to extract from the rocks or tear from the clutches of our enemies. We will have to use the profits to crush our competition. Only our skill in combat and team play will be able to defeat the treacherous terrain, which we will be able to use against our rivals to gain an advantage in an uncontrolled space. A fortune awaits us, but first we must destroy our opponents and collect our reward on our ship.
