If you have an older Oculus Rift S on hand that you’ve been using for PC gaming, you may have been wondering if your Rift S will work with PS5.
Here’s what you need to know, plus some interesting news on the front of a new PSVR headset.
Does Oculus Rift work with PS5?
In short, no. There’s no real way to get the Rift to connect to the PS5, or even your PS4. Unfortunately, that’s natively, anyway.
If you are desperate to try it out, you can use the Virtual Desktop app for Rift & Rift S, or if you have a Quest 2, Oculus has an official app for this purpose. Once you’ve bought that, it’s a matter of running PS Remote Play on your PC and then mirroring your PC screen to your headphones.
It’s not an ideal solution by any means, especially since this is known to cause some latency issues, but this depends on the games you’re playing. Slower games are likely to be fine, but with faster-paced titles, latency could become an issue.
Even with the fact that this does not work, there is still a huge library of games if you have the Rift S or the Quest 2, so you should not be left without some fun titles to play, such as the fantastic Beat Saber. for example, or Job Simulator.
Which VR headsets work with PS5?
The only current VR headset that works with PS5 is the original PSVR, which has not been discontinued and is fully compatible with PS5.
It can work with the PS5 thanks to the use of the PS4’s camera and an additional camera adapter that Sony is giving away to all PSVR owners, as long as you provide the serial number of your headphones.
To connect all the cables correctly, it’s a matter of first connecting the camera adapter to the camera of your PS4 on one end and then to a spare USB port on your PS5 on the other.
Once you’ve done that, run an HDMI output from the PSVR’s black box to the PS5, and then another HDMI cable from the PSVR to your TV for the output. and then a final USB cable that will run from the black box to the PS5.
Then turn everything on, run the setup procedure, and everything should work fine.
When will PSVR 2 be released?
While we have a separate article on the PSVR 2 release date, let’s break things down a bit here.
We don’t really know too much about when the PSVR 2 will be released, other than an internal Bloomberg report touting a release for the 2022 holiday season, at which point they say the PS5 shortage might be over.
If this is the case, then you will be waiting a year for a new headset, but considering the point that PSVR does not work better on PS5 in terms of graphics outputs, a new VR experience optimized for PS5 is advisable. if you want to make the most of the power of your console.
We’ll be back with you soon with more VR news and information, so be sure to check back with us soon and don’t forget that the Meta Quest 3 could be on its way to us, along with the PSVR 2.
