Latest from Facebook Reality Labs (formerly Oculus Research) shows a method for capturing the appearance of real-world mirrors.
The system finds mirrors by looking for a lens that is in the camera, then refines the shape of the mirror by analyzing various features of the image.
The most direct application is to capture more realistic environments to experience virtual reality, more easily. This research could allow representations of real-world locations to be more realistically mixed with digital elements, such as an avatar, even if there are multiple mirrors and reflective surfaces.
