The estimate revealed reflects the company’s move to accelerate advances in virtual and augmented reality.
With the aim of bringing virtual reality to as many people as possible, Oculus Facebook increased its search for talent by 75% earlier this year (they are still looking), and announced shortly after that the increase in investment for its research lab by Facebook, which is now known as Facebook Reality Labs. According to BuildZoom, Facebook would have spent about $ 88 million this year in Oculus laboratories and offices in the Redmond area (Washington D.C.), so this amount would be related to the increase in investment for research. The estimate takes into account a total of 11 offices located close to those of Microsoft.

Facebook’s commitment to Oculus was already reaffirmed by its CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a talk with the company’s shareholders last April. In addition, Michael Abrah, head of research at Facebook Reality Labs, commented that this movement (the growing investment) will allow them to move faster to push the limits of what is necessary to build great experiences.
