Valve CEO Gabe Newell took part in a Reddit ask what you Want (AMA) session yesterday, in which he answered several answers related to virtual reality.
Next to Gabe Newell there were other people related to virtual reality, Dota and Steam. All of them willing to answer the questions of Reddit users, in the AMA session. Below we show the questions that Newell answered in relation to virtual reality:
Reddit: “Is Valve interested in creating a complete game for Vive? The Lab was good, but we’d all love to have a full Valve game.”
Newell: “Yes. We think VR is very important as a tool to create interesting games.”
Reddit: “What is your view on the direction Valve as a company should take in the future?”
Newell: “The important thing now is to expand the range of options we have to create experiences. We believe that investing in hardware will give us those options. The Knuckle controller is being designed at the same time as we are designing our own VR games.”
At the end of the session there was a comment asking about the interest of other companies in the creation of SteamVR compatible devices and the Lighthouse follow-up. An employee of Valve, Joe Ludwig, was in charge of responding indicating that more than 500 companies have already signed up to use Lighthouse and some of them are creating HMDs. During the talk the classic questions about Half-Life 3 were also asked, but as expected they only joked indicating that the number 3 should not be mentioned.
