The augmented reality company Magic Leap has received an investment of $ 542 million dollars from a group of investors that includes Google, Qualcomm or Legendary Entertainment (producers of Godzilla and Interstellar) among others. Magic Leap can live up to its name, as it would be working on a wearable device capable of projecting a hologram using light field technologies. Such a jump may sound like magic to more than one.
Last February, Magic Leap received about $ 50 million from Weta Workshop, responsible, for example, for the miniatures and models of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but this new investment has skyrocketed the company’s value to close to $ 1700 million. As for the product, it would project the 3D image directly on the user’s retina, following the movements of his head to implement a kind of absolute positioning so that we can see the projected image from any angle.
The quality of the image, as stated in Magic Leap, would make it impossible for us to distinguish virtual objects from real ones, and they would integrate naturally into the real world.
