Google wants to improve the user experience with the different Cardboard devices available, and for this it has launched the “Works with Cardboard” certification program with a series of guidelines to follow.
One of the objectives of this certification program is that the software automatically adapts to the peculiarities of each of the devices (lens size, separation, etc.), so that all Cardboard device manufacturers generate a QR code that is printed on their viewer so that the end user, when scanning that code with his smartphone, has the best possible settings. The latest Cardboard SDK for Android and Unity is already prepared to read these features and adjust the experience according to those values.
Google has also published a PDF document with the guidelines that manufacturers must follow in order to obtain the logo with the official certification for their devices, so it is to be expected that very soon we will start seeing the “Works with Cardboard” everywhere.
