Artificial intelligence may be the perfect marketing tool. Rather than spending hours doing market research, an algorithm can in minutes understand a consumer’s preferences from social networks. Better, AI can detect emotions to know where you are most cheerful from a selfie posted on Instagram or Facebook. The Face API, a technology developed by Microsoft Azure, analyzes our face in a photo to recognize what emotions are shared. From a sufficiently large image base, it is thus possible to determine whether one place concentrates more (supposed) joy than another.Using this tool, LookFantastic, a cosmetics website, scanned the faces of more than 200,000 Instagram photos in France and around the world to reveal which cities inspire the most happiness on Instagram in France. Paris comes only in 20th position in the final ranking, while Marseille is eighth. The final study reveals that it is the average agglomerations that offer the most smiles. Cities are ranked by the gap between the level of happiness displayed on selfies and the national average level. Also read – The 10 most sought-after French destinations by foreign tourists10.
