Berlin drivers can be warned about speed cameras on the radio, it is legal. According to Stiftung Warentest, however, drivers of a car are not allowed to use a program on their mobile phone for this purpose. A little logical, but still clear legal situation, is the assessment of the testers. Drivers face a fine of 75 euros and a point in Flensburg in the event of a violation.
Speed camera app: ban applies only to drivers
However, according to the testers, the law refers only to the driver of a car. The passenger should therefore use such an app and inform verbally about speed cameras while driving. In the same way, drivers are allowed to search for possible radar spots before the start of the journey or during a break.
By the way, the ban on speed camera warning apps also applies in most other European countries – in some cases it is enforced even more strictly. The ADAC has created an overview of this.
Even Google offers a speed camera warning function in its navigation app in some countries. If this function is also launched on the market in Germany, motorists are no longer allowed to use the app while driving.
