After launching the Moderna EVO37 as a tribute to the rally car, Lancia 037, a few years ago, the Italian Kimera Automobili has now moved on to the successor of that car.
The Kimera EVO38, which will debut this week at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, is inspired by the Lancia 038, an improved version of the 037 that never made it to production.
The 037 became the last rear-wheel drive car to win the World Rally Championship, defeating the favorite Audi Quattro in 1983.
The EVO38 is based on the Kimera EVO37 that was first shown in 2021, but it has all-wheel drive and about 100 more horsepower. Kimera estimates about 600 hp, compared to the EVO37’s 505 hp. Both use a 2.0-liter inline-four engine like the 037, but with a Moderna turbocharger and an electric compressor to increase the power. Like the EVO37, the EVO38 uses a 6-speed manual transmission.
According to the company, the extensive use of carbon fiber and titanium keeps the weight at only 1,099 kg.
A re-tuned suspension system includes electronic shock absorbers and a lift system, while an ‘Integrale’ version adds an electro-hydraulic differential that allows the driver to control the power distribution.
In the absence of an exciting Lancia model, Kimera throws all the meat on the grill betting on a super exclusive model that pays a well-deserved tribute.
Production will be limited to 38 units. Kimera hasn’t revealed any pricing, but the EVO37 was priced at $567,000 at its launch in 2021
