After only 24 hours on Kickstarter, the funding goal for this AR viewer that requires a mobile and incorporates a very interesting lens design has already been exceeded.
The Norwegian company Ludenso, which already saw how its MovieMask campaign was successfully completed two years ago, returns with a similar design but evident novelties and a new concept. Like its predecessor, this product it will require our iOS or Android smartphone as a platform to enjoy the different compatible applications. As well as the choice of textile coverage with its characteristic zipper in universal mobile phone box, which facilitates the task of plugging headphones or power to the mobile.
This time however, the goal of MagiMask is to bring experiences of augmented reality to the user. So the mobile, in addition to the screen, will use the camera as a front sensor and technologies to provide positioning of 6dof. It also includes a set MagiTracker composed of cards and a cardboard die that will serve as a rendering point, controller and much more.
The most striking of its design, without a doubt, is the lens. That abandon the stereoscopic model double conventional optics, betting on a single sheet that gives it the look of ski goggles. Which we understand will result in an increase in the FOV, although the company does not give specific details about it. What we can confirm is that this new format does not include support for 3D.
We can still find in kickstarter the discounted early bird packs that include the MagiMask viewer and the MagiTool set, from 68 € more 16€ shipping to Spain. That will begin to be sent in january 2019. Date they intended to meet whether the campaign had been completed or not.
