Use PlayStation VR and the media player on PS4 Pro to watch 4K videos in virtual reality that will be played back in 1080p with supersampling for higher quality.
Sony has announced that the multimedia player you will receive an update today that will allow you to use PlayStation 4 Pro for viewing 4K videos, that we can have stored in mp4 format on a USB drive or access them through the network, if we have a server at home. If we have configured a USB external hard drive as an extended storage unit, then we will not be able to use it to copy videos, since its use is restricted for storing games and applications. In case of using a server, we can find it as one more option that will automatically appear in the multimedia player.
PlayStation VR comes with a 1920×1080 resolution screen, so 4K videos will not be viewed at their native resolution, but supersampling will be applied by having a higher resolution image that adjusts in this case to 1080p. This will give us a higher quality compared to Full HD videos. The new update is also compatible with 4K video in virtual reality, allowing the reproduction of 4K content in 360º that we will see at a higher quality.
