Operation succeeded: With the merger of the proof-of-work chain and the proof-of-stake chain in the Sepolia testnet on Ethereum, ETH developers have taken an important step towards a network update. On Wednesday, both the validators of the proof-of-work and the proof-of-stake chain, also known as the beacon Chain, uploaded the update to the Testnet.
However, the merging of the chains did not take place without stumbling. About 25 percent of the nodes went offline shortly after the update. The reason was “wrong configurations”, according to developer Terence Tsao.
Now there is only the dress rehearsal with the merge of the Goerli testnet. It is still unclear when Ethereum will actually switch to proof-of-stake. But it should happen later this year.
