Mobile time tracking creates value for companies ‘ projects
Tasks in companies can roughly be divided into three categories: operational tasks, project tasks and ad hoc tasks. Operational tasks are defined by being standardized tasks that are repeated several times. They often have a high degree of security and are often the company’s primary focus. Ad hoc tasks are smaller individual tasks that can often be done by one or two people. Project tasks are larger individual tasks that are often handled across departments. They have a high degree of uncertainty, since the company has not done so before. Project tasks are often handled by project groups which can be seen as small temporary organizations. But regardless of the type of task involved, aspects such as finance, labor and time play a major role.
Time in organizations
Organizations base a huge number of their tasks on time. Most employees in the Danish companies are hourly paid, and many customers have to pay based on the time the company has spent on the task. People also pay on a monthly basis for the vast majority of the subscriptions that they have. Time thus plays a big role for both customers, employees and the company’s other stakeholders. When tasks of all kinds are planned, they are often planned on the basis of time, which is related to finances, which is related to Labor.
Time in projects
As mentioned above, projects have the character of smaller temporary organizations. Most often, a project manager gathers a team of employees of the same company or cooperating companies. Here it is the responsibility of the project manager that all of the project team members perform their tasks within a time frame. Therefore, it is important for the project manager to be able to keep track of the time spent. For this, a project management tool with time recording is useful. But since projects, as mentioned earlier, have not been tried in the company and have a high level of uncertainty, then it is difficult to set a time frame. Therefore, projects often become very delayed and end up costing more than planned. Here, time recording can help similar future projects, so that the company knows how long the project can take.
Projects are becoming more fluid
When many people think about projects in organizations, they often imagine a room where the project team sits together. However, this is not always the case anymore, as the digital development has made it easier for employees to communicate across time and space. Therefore, some projects will take place without all members of the project group meeting each other. When the project manager does not constantly keep an eye on the project team, time recording is used to form an overview. With their time tracking app, they can show why they can’t reach tasks, bill customers correctly, etc. Therefore, time registration is not just a form of monitoring the employees, but a tool that helps in several areas of the project.
