The acquisition of Mojang by Microsoft in September last year makes more sense than ever after the announcement of the HoloLens augmented reality device. The creators of Minecraft are already working on experiences for it.
In the HoloLens presentation video, we saw several images of Minecraft, and now we know that Mojang is working on two experiences for Microsoft’s augmented reality glasses. According to Jens Bergensten, one of the Mojang developers, one of them is a small demo that they qualify as a toy, while the second is more of a game itself. At the moment both are very green (as are the glasses), but given the pull of Minecraft and its legion of followers, there is no doubt that Microsoft has made an excellent choice to look for that killer app to sell the glasses without too much effort.
I’ve tried 2 Minecraft projects on #HoloLens. One is a toy, one is closer to the game, both are awesome! Very much wip, but definitely real
