Since the beginning of this year, Netflix began to get into the world of video games a lot, as it has bought several studios that develop mobile titles and has added a lot of games to its catalog. However, the company is already ready to take the next step – the creation of high-caliber games.
Netflix has published a job offer for a game director who will work on an AAA project for PC. This will be the first high-profile project developed by the company and also the first that is not focused on mobile. Even though cell phone experiences are entertaining, many people don’t really take them seriously, because they don’t offer much mechanical depth. And now, the company wants to create something that truly competes with the big studios in the industry.
“As a Game Director, you will be the creative leader of one of Netflix’s first generations of in-house developed original games. You will provide the vision and direction of the game from the concept phase to production, launch and live operations,” Netflix mentioned. “The right candidate will bring industry-leading craftsmanship expertise and attention to detail to generate the vision of a high-quality, emotionally resonant, iconic and heart-filled game. Creating a great game that players will want to come back to repeatedly is our main goal – you will be able to create, distribute and take charge of a game without any competitive design restrictions due to monetization.”
While the job offer does not mention exactly what this project is about or if it will be directly related to any Netflix IP, it is mentioned that “previous experience in the development of first- or third-person shooter games” is desired. Although it is not a confirmation, this can give us a hint of the genre that the new project will have.
Netflix has already realized that the real success lies in creating a good community of gamers. If you have already entered the mobile market, now you want to capture the rest of that group of more dedicated users.
