Those interested in assembling a room-scale experience with the Oculus Rift can already order extra sensors to ensure optimal operation without occlusion problems in any circumstances.
Oculus assures that the second sensor included with the purchase of Oculus Touch guarantees a correct experience to play standing facing in front, at an angle of 180º in front of us. To do this, we have to place the two sensors in front of us, one to our left and the other to our right. However, as we could see at Gamescom, if we turn around and leave the sensors behind us, it is very easy for the Touch controllers to be occluded by our body. That is why Oculus announced in the Connect 3 that they would officially support 360º experiences at room scale if we add a third sensor to our gaming area, forming a triangle with the other two.
The extra sensor can already be pre-purchased on the Oculus website for a price of € 89, and to facilitate its placement on the back and away from the PC, it will be accompanied by a USB extension of 5 meters in length, so we can get it through the walls or through the ceiling. If we add to this the 225 cm of the sensor cable, we have a length of more than 7 meters which should be sufficient in all circumstances. Although if we want to take the room scale to the maximum, let’s remember that Oculus supports a maximum of 4 sensors, in case we want to cover an even larger gaming area.
