Important news for Facebook virtual reality viewer. The company has unveiled new features for Oculus Quest 2 in its official blog, among which is the possibility of connecting the glasses to the PC and enjoy virtual reality without the need for cables. It is about Oculus Air Link, a feature that will be released “soon “and will be complemented by the arrival of the native 120 Hz to Quest 2, so that they will ensure” a very smooth gaming experience”, all as part of the v28 update.

The company recalls that until now, users interested in connecting their Oculus Quest 2 to the PC had to use Oculus Link, a cable that connects via USB to the computer. Using this option, it was possible to enjoy Oculus Rift titles. However, since there was a cable in between, this could “break immersion and limit mobility”.

Given this situation, the developers wanted to offer an experience that guarantees the complete “freedom of movement” when using the Oculus Quest 2. “That’s why we’ve been working on a new streaming technology called Oculus Air Link.” Using WIFI, players will be able to enjoy all PC content on their wireless viewers.

Technology in constant development

Air Link will initially be launched as a experimental mode for Quest 2. The company is eager to hear feedback from players as this technology is “in the early stages of development”. However, they will continue to encourage the use of Oculus Link for all those who want it, since streaming technology requires that the WIFI signal is powerful enough.

On the other hand, they comment that not all PC connections and configurations will be ideal, but developers continue to improve performance and compatibility for different configurations. Oculus has shared a guide so that the user can test the functionality in the best conditions, while knowing the common problems. They recommend using Air Link only with a secure and trusted WIFI network, using 5GHz on an AC or AX router connected via Ethernet to the PC.

The 120 Hz will be coming to Oculus Quest 2 soon, but they have not announced a more specific date so far.
