It will come in the form of an update, which will be free for all Payday 2 owners, and the VR beta will be available this year.
Starburst and Overkill have announced the arrival of Payday 2 VR, one free upgrade for owners of the game, which allows play the full title in virtual reality. Payday 2 VR will deliver just what players expect, the same game, but in a more immersive way. Co-op will be compatible between players with VR viewers and traditional screen, so finding matchmates shouldn’t be a difficult problem. In addition, all the advances that we have from the normal game will continue to have in VR mode. In short, we have the same game, but adapted and playable totally in virtual reality. An approach and bet that users will surely appreciate.
In the teaser trailer above, we can see that the game will be compatible with HTC Vive and motion controllers, but presumably via SteamVR it will also be compatible with Oculus Rift. In terms of locomotion, we do not see what it will be like in the video, but being a shooter with traditional control, it would be reasonable that it will have several displacement modes and not only teleportation, if it includes it.
Payday 2 is a cooperative game for 4 players in which we have to perform a series of blows, to earn money and become legendary criminals. The game is currently available on Steam in single player packs for€ 19.99 or four for€54.99. Overkill is taking care of the development of the VR update, and there will be a beta available with support later this year.
