If you are looking for a good, simple and free mail program, you should try Thunderbird. Thunderbird is developed by Mozilla which is also behind the development of the popular browser Firefox. Thunderbird supports mail (POP and IMAP), newsgroups and RSS feeds. You can quickly and easily get more features by installing add-ons for the program.
You can download Thunderbird at DLC.dk where you can also get further information about the program. On http://kimludvigsen.dk/ is there also a thorough review of the program. If you also lack a good and stable newsgroup provider, you can http://www.individual.net / clearly recommended.
Account Settings (mail, newsgroups and RSS)
To add or remove an account, go to Tools > Account Settings > Account Manager.
Select a default account
If you have multiple email accounts, you can choose the one you use most often by default.
That way, the account in question will always be preselected in the From field when you type new ones
emails. You select an email account by default as follows:
Go to Tools & gt; Account Settings > Click on the desired Account & gt;
click the account management button at the bottom and select the item
By default, select & gt; OK.
View usernames and passwords
In some cases, it is a great advantage to be able to see which usernames and passwords you have entered for your different email accounts. You can view this information by doing the following.
Go to Tools & gt; Settings & gt; Security & gt; Passwords tab & gt;
Saved Passwords button & gt; Show Passwords button.
Always Start in Inbox
If you want Thunderbird to always start in the Inbox, you can install the Manually sort folders add-on. Go to Tools & gt; Add-ons & gt; Find add-ons.
Click the Learn More button in the What are add-ons box?
Search manually sort folders in the search box on the top right.
Click Add to Thunderbird and follow The Wizard.
Go in Features & gt; Add-ons > Extensions. Click Settings next to Manually sort folders.
Set the desired settings and restart Thunderbird.
Add calendar
If you want a calendar in Thunderbird, you can install the Add-On Lightning.
Go to Tools & gt; Add-ons & gt; Find add-ons. Click the Learn More button in the What are add-ons box?
Search lightning in the search box on the top right. Click Add to Thunderbird and follow The Wizard.
The calendar is displayed by going in events and tasks & gt; Calendar.
An overview for today’s date can be shown or hidden by going to View > Today panel > Show today overview.
Changing the number of days in the soon view
In the Overview for today’s date “ “soon” is set by default to show 5 days ahead. However, you can change the number of days to the desired one. Go to Tools & gt; Settings > Advanced > General tab > Advanced Settings > I promise to be careful. Next to Filter: insert calendar.agendaListbox.soondays.
Double-click on the Settings name and type the desired number in the field. Click OK.
Close the about:config window, click OK and restart Thunderbird.
Avoid word wrap in newsgroups
If you, like me, are tired of Thunderbird even wrapping text when writing posts in newsgroups, you can solve it by doing the below.
Go in Features & gt; Settings > Advanced > Advanced Settings & gt; I promise to be careful & gt;
Next to Filter: insert mailnews.wraplength.
Double-click the configuration name and Type f.ex. 1000 in the field. Click OK.
Close the about:config window, click OK and restart Thunderbird.
Avoid incorrect sender on posts in newsgroups
If sender has Invalid characters in his email address-f.ex. æ, ø and å-Thunderbird may display a random contact from your address book as the sender instead. This can be solved by doing the below.
Go to Tools & gt; Settings > Advanced > Reading & viewing tab > uncheck the show only “show as”field for people in my address book and click OK.
If it does not solve the problem, you can go to the address book. In the address book, right-click on the contact in question and select Properties.
Remove the check mark next to the item always select Show as name over the name in the header.
Red font at unknown addresses
Thunderbird writes in red when the address you are writing to is not in the address book. This can be solved by doing the below.
Go to Tools & gt; Settings & gt; Advanced & gt; General tab & gt; Advanced Settings & gt;
& gt; I promise to be careful. Next to Filter: you insert mail.autoComplete.highlightNonMatches.
Double-click the configuration name to change the value to false.
Close the about:config window, click OK and restart Thunderbird.
Notes
Using the quickfox Notes 2.6 D extension, you get the opportunity to write notes in Thunderbird.
Go to Tools & gt; Add-ons & gt; Find add-ons and search on quickfox. Click Install
next to QuickFox Notes 2.6 D. Restart Thunderbird when the installation is complete.
To open notes, click the yellow icon at the top right.
