The risk of hacker attacks is growing
According to experts, Russia is particularly interested in attacks aimed at renewable energies. Because these are crucial for the efforts of Germany and the West to become more independent of Russia’s gas.
Düsseldorf A Russian hacker attack on websites of the Ministry of Defense and the Bundestag. A cyber attack on the US agricultural machinery manufacturer Agco, which also stopped production at the subsidiary Fendt in the Allgäu. Persistent problems at the wind turbine manufacturer Nordex, which is still feeling the effects of a hacker attack in March: since the beginning of the Russian raid on Ukraine, cyber attacks from the East have also kept Germany on its toes.
Politicians are alarmed. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Affairs, recently said at a meeting of the G7 digital ministers: “This is also a war on the Internet. And the SPD member of the Bundestag and criminal investigator Sebastian Fiedler sees the cyber attacks on German government websites as “the harbingers of what attacks can still come to us”. Meanwhile, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution specifically warns the economy against Russian espionage attempts and cyber groups.
