Samsung’s mobile virtual reality device, whose commercial version has been on sale in Spain for a year, has managed to sell 5 million units to date.

This was confirmed by Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America, at a CES press event. To this statement were added others such as that users have viewed more than 10 million hours of video in 360º, and that a large number of hours of video have been uploaded using the Gear 360 camera. These official figures place the mobile viewer manufactured by Samsung in collaboration with Oculus as the best-selling virtual reality device so far.

In the absence of official sales numbers for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR, forecasts seem to indicate that mobile virtual reality could have surpassed PC and console in number of units sold. Although some of these estimates made have not turned out to be very reliable, since they predicted 2.3 million Gear VR sold. The Asian giant continues to work on the new iteration of Gear VR that will be presented soon.
