“SAS”: AI is a tool that will change Traslasierra Alexandrov | 09.09.2020
The company “SAS” conducted a study in which revealed just how ambiguously perceived by one of the most important technologies of modern times – artificial intelligence (AI).
Today decisions on the basis of AI are all around us: they are used in smartphones, control voice assistants, form the news feeds in social networks and direct the cars on the desired route.
AI called the new electricity, but it is still not fully appreciated and are not effectively used by the technology of today. This is partly due to associations,
came from science fiction, partly due to misunderstanding of the terms “machine learning” and “deep learning”. As a result, the positioning and perception of AI balancing between the two
extremes: either it is presented as the source of limitless possibilities, or as a threat and competitor to men in the labour market.
“SAS” has collected 12 focus groups. Each Respondent was selected by an independent research Agency Roots Research and belonged to one of the five categories listed below. Each focus group
simultaneously included 4-5 participants. Moderators of the sessions were not joined directly to the discussions, however, the motivated respondents in the discussions and encouraged them to support and deeper
to reveal their point of view about AI.
- Students: students and recent graduates of universities, age about 20 years. Before you start to use a solution based on AI in everyday life; they are concerned how it will affect them
life in the future. - Date-cientista: experienced developers and analysts, age from 25 to 40 years. Have realistic views on the possibilities of AI in the field of collection and protection of data.
- Scientists: teachers and professors of specialized universities – this category includes a wide range of experts of different ages. Are optimistic about the potential of AI, but have some
concerns about the impact of technology on society, cautiously looking at business opportunities to benefit at the expense of the AI. - Business leaders: senior executives (CEO and CFO) aged 40 to 60 years, who are responsible for the management of business processes in their companies. With enthusiasm we look at the advantages of AI
however ready to invest in it only if you have a reliable business plan and proven economic effect. - Technical Director: the technical experts at the age from 40 to 60 years. Play the role of AI-lawyers in their companies, however, are skeptical about the solutions available on the market
today.
The study showed that no category of respondents gave no clear answer to the question, what is AI anyway slip. There were various interpretations: the participants
described a wide range of technologies, including those that have nothing to do with real AI.
The only group that has tried to define the discussion, what is AI, were scientists, but even they have not reached unanimity regarding a satisfactory definition. Wide variation
opinions were in the group date of sientists that would seem faster to find a common point of view, since I work with AI in practice. However, in this category were the adherents of the
different opinions: for some, AI is a tool for data analysis and decision making, for others – means of automation in the future is able to displace people. Even greater heterogeneity
opinions were in other categories, but in General we observed the following pattern: the more experience and knowledge in the issue of technologies has the Respondent, the less he feels concerns about
AI.
The lack of unanimity regarding the definition of AI has led to the conclusion that the necessary detailed discussion before starting any AI project. The blurring of the meaning of the term “artificial intelligence”
creates challenges for developers, organizations and even users, and without clear explanations, it can be perceived as anything from a panacea to a threat.
The study was made another important conclusion: the decision of the AI puzzle probably lies in the fact that you need to stop looking for an inclusive definition. AI can relate
a wide range of different technologies and examples of practical application, and it should be defined differentially in each particular case for each particular project. To admit that
or other AI system consists of various components, fairly and transparently to bring it up to the audience – the only way to avoid irrational fears and exaggerated expectations from AI.
Despite disagreements about what is AI, in all groups there was a strong enthusiasm about its possibilities. Almost all the participants believe in the positive
the impact of AI on the economy and believe that it will improve performance. Respondents from the categories of data sientists and business leaders talked about it, based on our own experience. In
particular, many cited examples of how AI now frees staff from tedious repetitive work, freeing up time for more important tasks.
The respondents believe that AI will help to neutralize the gap in technical knowledge that exists today in various industries. Especially, of interest were the use of AI in
health, and actively discussed how those who work in the industry, and those who had nothing to do with her. The participants agreed that health services are in dire need of
AI tools in the long term. The main role of the respondents said the AI in the field of General diagnostic. Participants of the categories, sientists and business leaders gave examples from his
practice, when doctors relied on the decision of AI, even if it disagreed with their own opinions. The participants from the categories of students and the date of cientistas mentioned that they would prefer to
medical procedures and operations they conducted the AI. In their view, this would reduce the influence of the human factor. However, they said that they deemed necessary in such procedures, the presence
a qualified medical professional.
Overall, the study suggests that AI’s opinion of its participants, have a bright future, and some of the industries it is particularly to transform – first and foremost, health and financial sector.
However, the business needs commercial approach to the use of AI and clearly define the tasks that he wants to solve with its help. Having thus the economic effect on the projects
a small investment, it will be easier to convince senior management of the need for wider implementation.
