Space Engine, the free application that allows us to explore the universe in 3D, has finally been updated and is now compatible with Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2. A delight for lovers of realistic and peaceful space exploration.
You can download it for free from its official website. If you have an AMD card and the program hangs when activating the Oculus Rift mode, you will have to edit the file config/user.cfg and change the following parameters to false:
EnableMipmapsWarp false // use mipmapping for warp effects rendering
EnableMipmapsGUI false // use mipmapping for GUI FBO
EnableMipmapsFrame false // use mipmapping for scene FBO
It is a first version with support for virtual reality and it is to be hoped that it will continue to improve over time, but unfortunately its creator does not have a DK2 and the tests have been carried out with the DK1. If you have a problem with the activation of low persistence or 75 Hz, you can try to first launch some other demo like Tuscan and then load Space Engine. It works both in direct mode and in extended mode, the latter being the one that is giving the best results for now.
