Today the beta phase of this free to play free multiplayer game in which we pilot a spaceship in pvp combats and pve missions has ended. In the corresponding update, in addition to numerous new features, they have added a magnificent support for the new Oculus development kit, following the line they have already marked with the great support they gave to the DK1.
The game can be downloaded for free from Steam or from its official website. To activate the Oculus Rift mode, just go to the options menu, pressing the ESC key or pressing the gear icon in the upper left corner of the main menu, and within Settings go to the Oculus Rift submenu and check the box “Enable Oculus Rift” and press Apply.
When starting the game, it probably appears in normal mode, without dividing the screen, so in the Rift it will be difficult to see what we are doing, but it is enough to press Des Lock (the key between Print and Inter Pause), which is the default key to activate / deactivate the Oculus mode. The Home key can be used to reset the orientation.
Once the Oculus Rift mode is activated, the game goes great on a GTX670, maintaining without any problem the stable 75 fps with vsync activated, and even with filters such as supersampling (you have it in the Oculus Rift options of the settings menu), so the image quality is more than good and the headtracking very smooth, without a trace of juddering. If already in the DK1 this game was a great experience, in the DK2, with the higher resolution and low persistence, the experience improves markedly. The absolute positioning also works perfectly, but since in this game for now there is no view from inside the ship but we are going on it, on the outside, it is not used too much. It is planned to add a view from inside the cabin later, but there is no date for it for now.
THE game can be controlled with a joystick or with a keyboard and mouse, the latter option being the most recommended because it allows much more precision when aiming, but that already falls within the tastes of each one.
