It is always interesting to see when 2 great companies come together or collaborate to help the consumer. And this CES 2024 we are going to be able to enjoy this, due to the energy union between Samsung and Tesla.
Tesla and Samsung team up
Tesla and Samsung have just announced a new collaboration related to energy connectivity. The collaboration will enable the connection of Samsung’s SmartThings Energy with Tesla products such as Powerwall, solar inverters, Wall Connector charging solutions and electric vehicles. Thanks to Tesla’s APIs, this collaboration will expand SmartThings Energy’s connectivity and contribute to Samsung’s goal of providing more convenient and seamless home experiences for consumers.
Samsung’s SmartThings app will be able to report on the status of a Tesla Powerwall
According to Chanwoo Park, executive vice president and head of the Internet of Things Development Team of the Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, this collaboration allows Tesla Energy customers to manage and monitor the energy status of their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices, in addition to the Tesla app.
The collaboration is still at an early stage, and it is expected that there will be more developments in the future. Samsung mentions that Tesla will be able to send notifications of the Storm Watch function through Samsung smart TVs, and suggests the possibility of automatically turning off some devices when Tesla’s power systems use backup power to prolong the ability to operate off-grid.
Samsung concluded by mentioning that the use of Tesla’s API is part of its plan to achieve zero-carbon homes in the future.
