AI is advancing at a dizzying pace and the industry continues to develop programs and components that adapt to the needs of the times to come.
The future of technology it goes, without a doubt, through the improvement of Artificial Intelligence and its application in the field of robotics. Thus, research centres and the world’s major technology companies focus a large part of their efforts on the development of more powerful designs and innovators.
Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, gathers every year technological elites at the MARS private conference. The last meeting took place in California and there the great futuristic projects that will mark the future of the sector. Among all the presentations highlighted the new AI chip fruit of the collaboration between Nvidia and MIT researchers.
Efficiency and flexibility
Eyeriss is a microprocessor designed specifically for increase the power of algorithms from AI. The new chips stand out for their efficiency and flexibility, as well as for the handling of deep learning techniques.
Deep learning enables machines programming themselves from a set of patterns set in advance. The development of new chips advances with the aim of improving the ability to understand the artificial neural network and thus enable machines to perform more ambitious and automated tasks.
The most powerful deep learning chip
The MIT project has been presented as a substantial improvement with respect to the hardware currently installed. This is a very important step forward for the evolution of Artificial Intelligence dynamics and the progress of drones and robots self-employed.
The project was presented at the MARS conference by Vivienne Sze, principal investigator of the high-performance energy efficient systems group at MIT. Sze stressed the importance of energy efficiency so that Artificial Intelligence systems are able to function beyond data centers. “The real opportunity lies not in building the most powerful deep learning chips, but in developing microprocessors capable of run on available power on the device, ” he concluded.
