Cars are complex machines, so one way or another they will always present problems. That’s why the joke is to find the brands or models that cause the least amount of headaches for the owner. And, fortunately, a firm has just made our task in Mexico a lot easier.
The most reliable cars in Mexico
The analysis firm J.D. Power has just revealed its 2023 Mexico Vehicle Reliability Study, which reveals which manufacturers have the least problems with their vehicles. And one of the biggest revelations is that despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic in the automotive industry worldwide, the reliability of vehicles in Mexico stands out positively, compared to other markets. According to the study, the industry here has an overall average of 213 problems per 100 vehicles, with the infotainment category presenting the most problems, especially among younger customers, with 39 problems per 100 vehicles. Young people need information or entertainment on screens, but apparently the Mexican industry is not up to their needs.
The research found that owners of the Millennial and Gen Z generations, who have grown up in the digital age, have higher expectations regarding the proper functioning of infotainment systems. Thus, it is a critical opportunity for automakers to improve the owner experience, as these generations will represent an important part of vehicle buyers in the future. In addition, he noted that software updates in the infotainment are key to increasing customer satisfaction, and among those whose vehicles received an update, the performance of the infotainment was “much better than expected.”
The study, which is already 9 years in the making, measures the problems experienced in the last 12 months by the original owners of vehicles in Mexico after 12 to 36 months of ownership. By 2023, it was redesigned to more accurately capture 184 specific problem areas across nine major vehicle categories.
