New technologies have become a very valuable tool in many entities. It can even help sustainable urban planning, as in this case they use the so-called digital twins to improve the environment of the population.
Concept digital twins or digital twins it has existed since 2002 and has always been related to the Internet of things (IoT).
Well, digital twins technologies have taken a step forward. This time, a research group from the Center for High-Performance Computing at the University of Stuttgart (HLRS), next to Fraunhofer Institute, have created a digital twin with the aim of improving sustainable urbanization in the city of Herrenberg (Germany), which has more than 30,000 inhabitants.
Much more than a place to live
A city is much more than a place, at least you think Fabian Dembski, one of those in charge of this project.
Dembski suggests that cities function as a living organism that evolves over time. For this reason, city planning may or may not improve the health of the inhabitants.
It is true that technology has been of great help to large cities to make them efficient, equitable and inclusive.
To recreate this city, researchers used the supercomputing to develop models of urban environments by adapting digital twins in cities that would simulate planning processes.
The focus of this project is that in the life of a city there are countless interaction. To understand them, factors such as air quality, traffic conditions or pedestrian prevalence must be taken into account.
The importance of emotions
There is a 2D schematic, then include geographical data and data traffic to get a realistic recreation.
All this served to create an application that invited the residents of the German city to send their emotional responsesthat is, they sent their feelings towards certain locations.
Once the answers are obtained, we proceed to make a 3D visualization of the city and include the data provided, thus creating a model of immersive virtual reality.
According to the research team, the possibility of incorporating applications of Artificial Intelligence to represent the emotions of its citizens.
