Mountain View The world’s largest search engine operator Google has expanded the company headquarters with a campus with 4000 workplaces. It is the first time that the company has designed and built a building complex from the very beginning.
“We designed these buildings so that they will also match our working style in twenty, thirty or forty years,” said Google’s senior building manager, David Radcliffe. He led the Handelsblatt through the new Bay View campus for the opening.
The actual company headquarters, also called Googleplex, was originally the headquarters of the technology company Silicon Graphics. Google initially rented the buildings and eventually bought a majority of the houses 16 years ago.
But it is something completely different to build a building from the beginning according to the needs of a company. “This is where we were able to realize ourselves,” Radcliffe said. The complex stands on a site that belongs to the US space agency Nasa and is located near the Googleplex.
