President Donald trump vetoed a major bill on defense in the amount of $740 billion, and also called Congress submitted the bill help the economy Cares 2 “disgrace”. If bills will not be accepted until Monday, U.S. threatens suspension of financing governmental organizations (lockdown).
On Wednesday, President Donald trump vetoed a large-scale act of defense policy that authorizes the allocation of $740 billion in spending and sets policy for the Pentagon.
Trump said that the law in the current edition of the “works in favor of China,” and also demanded the annulment of partition, which, according to the President, protects such tech giants like Facebook (FB) and Twitter (TWTR), from legal liability for what is published on their platforms.
Earlier this month the Law on defence adopted both houses of Congress subject to the limitation of the veto, which means that any veto trump will probably be cancelled. Now Congress must again vote to reject the veto trump.
In addition to criticism of the defence Act trump called a “disgrace” the law Cares 2, which provides assistance to the country’s economy during a pandemic, in the amount of $900 billion.
Trump has called on Congress to change the amount of payments to Americans with more than $600 (in current law) to $2,000, and eliminate “wasteful and unnecessary expenditure”.
Cares 2 was passed by Congress on Monday, it was preceded by seven months of negotiations in which Democrats insisted on the larger payments to Americans, and representatives of the Republican party, to which trump, sought to cut funding to reduce the budget deficit.
Elected President, Democrat Joe Biden said earlier that the current law is “only the beginning” and that funding would be extended after its official accession to the position of President on January 20.
In response to Trump the speaker of the house of representatives controlled by the Democrats, Nancy Pelosi said that they will support the call of the incumbent to raise the payment to $2000 and that a second vote will take place this week.
Both bills are important in the current crisis conditions. The previous law Cares with funding of $2 trillion. taken at the beginning of the height of the pandemic in March, ends on 26th December, just after Christmas. This means that many Americans lose the right to receive additional payments, and in arrears on loans for housing – at risk of being evicted, as it will end the moratorium on evictions. In addition to direct assistance to citizens and businesses, airlines and so on, the funding for Cares 2 includes the allocation of $30 billion for the purchase and distribution of vaccines against COVID-19.
If December 28, laws on financing are not taken, the US threatens lockdown (stop the government). Two years ago trump triggered a record 35-day lockdown in dismissing the bill on the Federal spending due to the fact that, according to him, there was insufficient funding for the construction of the border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.
