Finally, it seems that the world is starting to agree on the charging standards of electric cars. This day, several giants of the automotive industry joined the cause.
Several automotive giants are joining Tesla
Through a press release, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and Scout Motors announced the implementation of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) in their future vehicles, in North America from 2025. This standard will allow customers with a Combined Charging System (CCS) charging port to access the Tesla Supercharger charger network, thus expanding the options of charging providers. In addition, adapter solutions are being explored for existing vehicles that already have the CCS.

The implementation of this standard will provide customers with access to more than 15,000 Superchargers, in addition to the more than 3,800 direct current (DC) fast charging points currently operated by Electrify America and Electrify Canada. In fact, Electrify America has already announced that it will work to offer the NACS connector in charging stations by 2025 in North America, in addition to continuing to support the CCS.
The Volkswagen Group reaffirmed its commitment to improving the charging experience through open standards and interoperability. The president of the Volkswagen Group of America, Pablo Di Si, stressed that this is excellent news for electric vehicle customers in the region, as it will give them access to an extensive charging network to ensure they always have somewhere to take battery.
It is very important to highlight the collaboration between the different car manufacturers and Tesla, to improve the user’s charging experience. Before, that each company used its own chargers and standards, it was a real mess. But now, as more and more vehicles adopt the same, it will be easier for a user to be encouraged to buy an electric vehicle.
