The October update of Windows 10 brings new features such as the option to see the real world and to use the new quick actions.
Microsoft it has announced at its event dedicated to Surface that the Windows 10 October update, which brings new features for viewers users of Windows Mixed Reality like the Mixed Reality Flashlight, which they already anticipated this summer through the Insider testing program. This addition allows us to see the real world with the front cameras of the viewfinder, thus facilitating tasks such as using a real object or seeing what we have around us without having to physically remove the viewfinder, something similar to what Vive with SteamVR offers.
We can open a portal to the real world using the start menu, a button or a voice command.
“Quick Actions”, another new feature, allows us to see the time or run the tools to capture images, videos and more from any application we are running. These are activated by pressing the Windows key found in both motion controllers. The video capture also has some settings to make it easier to stop through the start menu.
From the configuration we now have the possibility to enable the audio of our virtual reality contents to be played not only through the viewer (jack connector or integrated headphones), but also simultaneously by the PC speakers. To do this you have to go to “Settings > Mixed Reality > Audio and Voice” and check the corresponding option.
Finally, Windows MR no longer requires that we have a connected monitor for its execution, which facilitates the use of backpack equipment. Of course, it is still necessary for the initial configuration of the device, the definition of the room limits and the login with password, although for the latter we can always configure the auto boot.
