Oculus Quest 2 is an incredibly versatile device: there are tons of different ways to play and use programs on the device… and one of the most useful ways is Oculus Link.
Allows you to connect your computer to the headphones. One of the limitations of Quest 2 is that its processing power and graphics output are limited. It is not very large and does not have the kind of space that will allow you to place, for example, a 3090 GPU on your computer.
However, that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of your computer’s hardware. You can connect the two in several ways. There are wireless apps that allow this, such as Remote Desktop (which you can get from the Oculus store). That said, its performance depends entirely on the quality of your Internet connection.
Link
The Link, on the other hand, uses a cable to connect to the headphones, eliminating the need for a particularly stable connection. Assuming that there is a virtual reality application installed on your computer, either through Steam VR, Oculus VR or some other method, you can use a wired connection to run it during your mission. While not every VR game you can install on your PC will be fully compatible with Quest, we haven’t found any problems with the ones we tested.
The wired connection has another small advantage: it allows you to charge the headphones while gaming, thus greatly extending the somewhat poor battery performance of the Quest 2. It will still run out faster than it can charge, but you can play several more times. long with a wired connection.
The link works via a cable between the PC and the headphones. You will need to install an application on your PC.
As mentioned, you can also play games installed on your PC via Oculus Link. Quest 2 is fully configured and ready to use Link; there is even a function that allows you to instantly stream your desktop to the headset, without the need for additional programs or any additional settings.
