According to a report published by ABI Research, the augmented reality market will have a turning point in 2018 that will be driven by enterprise applications.

ABI Research he has carried out a study on the future augmented reality market that a priori, as other studies carried out coincide, will be larger than that of virtual reality. As of 2018, shipments of augmented reality devices will grow to reach 28 million in 2021 with a growth of 227%. This momentum will be thanks to the growing interest in how AR can benefit companies, as well as the understanding of the available use cases and their relevant applications for customers.

“2016 was the year of discovery for AR. The pilot phases will continue in 2017, with early adopters moving to more substantial deployments. New AR customers will be excited by the new positive performance indicators across the market, with the promise of increased labor efficiency and the reduction of errors,” he commented Eric Abbruzzese analyst at ABI Research.

It is expected that by 2021 a profit of 96,000 million will be reached between devices, platforms and licenses. The energy industry, manufacturing and logistics will have the largest market shares, but the health, media and entertainment markets will grow faster with 323% and 400% respectively. “2018 will be the year when all verticals will experience a significant jump in AR adoption rates. This is due to a congruence of three factors: significant time on the market for the pilot phases and small deployments to provide success indicators, greater breadth and depth of use case support across platforms, and a more mature global market in terms of deployments, integrations and usage,” concludes Abbruzzese.
