Smart measures we can not get enough of, and just the idea of being able to control its lighting directly via an app on the Mobile, is for many surreal. However, it is, if nothing else, possible and, to a very high degree, topical. With large store clothes such as Bilka and Føtex, which have started the sale of these smart lamps, one has only to note that the future once again lies in our hands in the form of apps.

From energy-saving lights to app-controlled lighting

The development in the vast majority of industries has in recent years gone extremely fast. If you look at the electrical goods industry, there can be no doubt that there has been a great focus on energy-saving lighting in recent years. Partly to protect the environment and partly to save on electricity bills. However, we are moving towards a time when energy-saving light has become an ”integral” part of daily life and where the ”new future” must now be determined. Here we have no doubt that app-controlled lighting will play a major role in the industry.

Several of the world’s largest manufacturers of lighting have entered the battle for market shares in connection with this new niche product. Philips, for example, leads their Philips Hue, which is perhaps one of the most popular lighting products on the market that can be controlled via an app.

What can be controlled via these apps?

Depending on the brand of the bulbs, the most common control options are:

  • Color change: Do you want white, yellow or red light? At most lighting options where an app is included, you will be able to choose your favorite color as lighting.
  • On / off: You can turn off / on your lighting while, for example, lying in bed and relaxing.
  • Light intensity: Is it early morning or late evening when the light is allowed to be subdued? You will usually have the opportunity with an app.
  • Automatic timer: If you want the lighting off after 15 minutes, this can often be set.

In addition, there is the possibility of integrations with other apps, so that the light can, for example, turn on when it is time to stand up.

“Are they indispensable attributes these apps bring with them, or are they merely redundant measures?”many will doubtless and with good reason wonder. It is without a doubt a mixture – the possibility of on / off and light intensity are all other things equal measures that will optimize and facilitate many people’s everyday life. Conversely, the possibility of changing the light color into a ball Street, where you as a private person most likely will be able to live without.

Whether one has reached the stage where app-based lighting is flawless is even hard to say. However, it is quite certain that it is a product that we as Danes will look much more to.
