Those who can’t make it to Connect this year will be able to access some of the live esports presentations and action thanks to Oculus Venues in Oculus Go and Gear VR.

Oculus has partnered with Supersphere to enable the VR community to participate without being present, through social VR livestream using Oculus Venues in Oculus Go and Gear VR. Venues will allow you to chat with other attendees, share comments during events and change seats to connect with more VR fans.

On September 26, starting at 10:00 am PT (US Pacific time – 19:00 Spanish time), fans will be able to connect LIVE with the presentation of OC5, including the latest news from Virtual Reality and its developers. The esports action will start from 12:00 to 5:00 pm, to animate the assembly hall (from 21:00 to 02:00 Spanish time). That same night, the main stage will be transformed into an esports stadium to host the final series of the Onward Virtual Reality league between 6:00 and 10:00pm (between 15:00 and 19:00 Spanish time). On September 27, at 10:00am (19:00 Spanish time), Oculus CTO, John Carmack, will offer his traditional presentation without script. And finally, fans of weightless sports (zero-g sports) will be able to enjoy the Echo Arena competition between 12:00 and 4:00pm (between 21:00 and 01:00 Spanish time).

“We have streamed several different types of events at Venues, such as concerts, comedy sessions and sporting events, but OC5 will include both live performances and esports, which will be something new for us,” said Oculus Product Manager and Head of Unit in London Mike LeBeau. “Each new event creates new challenges and learning opportunities, as we try to capture the right environment, find the right approach and views, and convey the real event environment through Venues.”

For the presentations,” we will focus on managing 180° live cameras on the speakers, in addition to graphic integration, ” explained Supersphere Founder and Executive Producer Lucas Wilson. “Esports tournaments will combine live cams with multiple clips from the game. We will also be using for the first time a completely new technology that generates immersive video from the game engines themselves, to offer viewers a true 180°/360° view of the game. This will be the first time that viewers will be able to enter the game in a richer and more immersive way. We’ve worked closely with the great teams at Facebook, Oculus and ESL to create complete immersive environments that will make fans vibrate.”

Two 2D livestreams of esports presentations and events will also be offered on various channels. Fans will be able to follow the live performances via the Oculus Facebook page, while the web fb.gg/vrleague it will be the meeting point for everything related to esports. Fans who own a Rift and run the Rift Core 2.0 beta will be able to use the integrated Dash panels to invite their friends to watch live coverage of OC5 in Virtual Reality through a Hang-Out group.

There will also be recordings of OC5 content, including technology discussions, panels and more through the YouTube channel.

OC5 visitors will experience the latest breakthrough in location-based entertainment (LBE) with Star Wars™: Secrets of the Empire —the hyper-reality experience created by ILMxLAB and The VOID— from inside the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
