A website without a menu makes it impossible for your reader to navigate around your page, and therefore the menu is of course mandatory to set up. Here you present your reader with what you have to offer-the menu items should hit what the reader expects to find on your page.

In this review, you will learn how to set up your menu in WordPress. SEE ALSO Here you will learn how to set up Contact Form 7 for WordPress.

1) The page without menu

Below you will see a website without a menu. It is not as it should be, but we will rectify that in a moment. Just follow the wizard that starts in Section 2.

2

2) you start in the control panel

3

The very first thing you need to do is enter the item ”menus” under ”appearance” in the control panel.

3) 7 different points

4

In here you get a screenshot, which is the whole focal point of your menu settings.

When you enter the screen, you will first see a tab called ”edit menus”. And that’s exactly what this screenshot is about – editing the content, structure, and location of your menus.

There are a lot of things you can do in this screen and therefore the various options are divided into points A-G and explained below. There will be a further review of some of the points later.

A: Manage areas

Under “Manage areas” you can decide which menu you want in your menu areas. This section is further detailed under Section 4.

B: create a Now menu

Here you create a new menu. If you want a different menu than the existing one, press “Create a new menu”. This brings you in on a new screen. This section is further detailed under Section 4.

C: Pages

Under the item “pages” you can see all the pages that you have the opportunity to use in your menu. All pages you have published are included here. Pages that are still only drafts cannot be viewed.

To the left of each page title, you can select whether the page should be included in the menu.

You can also just bring them all by tapping “Select All”.

D: Menu Name

Under “Menu name” you can change the name of the menu. Maybe you have different menus you use at different times, for example, if you sell seasonal items and then it may be a good idea to give the menu a name that fits what it shows. This way you can quickly find the correct menu if you need to switch it.

E: Menu Structure

Under this item you can see the current structure of your menu. The top item starts your menu and the bottom item ends your menu.

With “drag and drop” you can move on the order. Note that if the menu is left slightly to the right when you move it it will be part of a drop down menu to the menu above. If you don’t want it, you just move it all the way to the left.

F: add to menu

When you press the “Add to menu” button, all pages are added that you have chopped off under the item C.

G: Menu Settings

In this section you can choose whether your menu should be placed in the ”primary menu” area or slightly higher up in any ”top menu”. As a rule, you use the primary menu but can also use both the primary menu and the top menu, if you have many items you would like to include.

Remember to always press “Save menu” before you exit, so that the work does not have to do again.

4) homepage – now with menu

5

In the picture you can now see that a menu has been added and that the menu corresponds to the structure that you saw in the previous picture.

  • Try to go in and create a page and add it to your menu so you can see it on the front page of your home page.
  • You can also try changing the order with drag and drop and see how the order also changes on the website.

4) Deepening of Point A + B

Deepening A-Manage areas

6

Here, as mentioned earlier, you can control which menu you want in your menu areas.

With the drop down panel you can select a different menu for an area if you have created more than one menu.

Pressing “edit” will return to the screen you saw in Section 3.

If you choose “Use new menu” you can create a new menu that you can use for your menu area.

As before-remember to press “Save Changes” so you don’t have to do it all over again.

Elaboration of B – ” create a new menu”

Here you create a new menu. Give the menu a name in “Menu name”.

Drag the pages from the left that you want to use to the menu.

No more pressing “Create menu””

7

5) Now just create menus

The best way to learn is by trial and error.

Follow The Points you just read and soon you will be the master at editing the content, structure and location of your menus.

Have fun.
