The event that took place at the Polo de Contenidos Digitales de Málaga will return in July 2019, betting on a greater presence of international speakers.
At the closing ceremony of the Virtual Reality Observatory 2018 (OVR18), Ricardo Medina, CEO of Medina Media, has announced the dates for what will be the third edition: July 17 and 18, 2019. The objective of next year will be to provide “a more international accent among the speakers”, while continuing to bet on the area of free experiences to which the general public has returned to respond with its presence one more year.
“Applications in education, training and culture will be one of the star pillars of the 2019 edition of the Observatory, in addition to eSports, magnetic sensors, glasses and indie video games,” says the organization of the event.
During the days that the event has lasted, the attendees have been able to know first – hand some of the advances and trends of the extended reality applied in different sectors such as audiovisual, architecture, art and medicine. In the Demo Area, hundreds of people have been able to enjoy for free more than 30 experiences from different companies.
Evelyn Miralles, the head of NASA’s VR program, connected from Houston with the public gathered at the Digital Content Pole in Malaga to tell how NASA uses immersive technology in astronaut training. In the field of medicine, Sngular in collaboration with the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville and the surgeon Rubén Pérez-Mañanes, of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid presented their RA projects applied to the improvement of the work of the surgeon during surgical interventions. In addition, different researchers and doctors from the University of Malaga gave their views on the evolution of laparoscopic surgery and presented projects developed with new technologies that aim to improve the learning of future doctors and the quality of care for patients.
