Red Hat Developer Hub provides software development teams with a central self-service portal with access to all the resources they need, such as tools, documentation, and software libraries. Thanks to predefined template solutions, new projects can be set up faster. The use of cross-platform uniform pipelines also accelerates the transfer of code into production.
Compliance and security standards are met through role-based access management (RBAC) and integration with Red Hat Trusted Software supply chain. The latter provides a framework for curating trusted code content with an automated chain of trust that can verify pipeline conformance at build time. This provides information on the origin and an attestation of languages, frameworks and dependencies.
The platform is based on Backstage, an open source project of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). Based on user feedback, Red Hat has already developed a number of technology plug-ins and made them available to the backstage community. These plug-ins are fully supported and verified for use with Red Hat Developer Hub. In addition, Red Hat Developer Hub is able to run and support community plug-ins.
If companies rely on an open hybrid cloud, the Developer Hub is seamlessly integrated into Red Hat OpenShift and uses its container technologies. The manufacturer speaks of the possibility of “tapping into innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-native application architectures.” According to Red Hat, further tools are to optimize the integration into hybrid cloud environments in the future.
By providing it as a company-certified solution, Red Hat also provides technical support for Red Hat Developer Hub. This helps companies to implement the associated digitization projects with greater predictability and lower risks. Overall, the developer portal aims to accelerate innovations and at the same time meet the highest security requirements.
Red Hat Trusted Application Pipelines, Red Hat Trusted Profile Analyzer and Red Hat Trusted Artifact Signer are currently available in the technology preview – with general availability expected during this quarter. More information about the Developer Hub can be found on the Red Hat website.
