ФАС хочет запретить производителям замедлять работу старых устройств

The Agency proposes to prevent “unwarranted reduction” in the life of the gadgets that sin Apple, Samsung and other companies, and to prohibit omitting material information about the product.

According to the draft amendments to the law “On protection of competition”, FAS posted on the portal regulation.gov.ru producers can prohibit use of products which harm the operation of the devices.
We are talking about programs like the one that Apple uses in its smartphones, slowing down his work under the guise of compensation of the wear of the battery. At the moment the function can be disabled
however, it is still present despite the fact that the manufacturer at the time had to pay the users a decent amount of money as compensation. Samsung also came under Italian
antitrust penalty for attempting to instil in consumers the impression that their gadget is outdated and requires replacement, and nevertheless continued this practice.

However, the FAS believes that buyers have a right to know what is really installed on their gadgets, how does this affect the CPU, and should receive clear information about what
characteristics have lithium batteries in their smartphones and how much on average they can be used. All this together can stimulate sales and reduce the period of renewal of the model range that
bad influence on the interests of users.
