American buyers can now pre-order the new Gear VR for Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. This new version improves on the original for Note 4 in several ways, although Samsung continues to baptize it as Innovator Edition.
At the moment the reservations are made through the BestBuy chain, and it will be from May 8 when it can also be made through the Samsung website. The device will hit the shelves of the North American chain on the 15th, as we read in Road to VR. The price remains identical to the Gear VR for Note 4, that is, $ 199, and we hope that this time the European model will not take as long to arrive as the previous one did, since the biggest obstacle was in the software, which is conveniently localized to various languages including Spanish.
The new Gear VR is lighter, among other things due to the smaller size of the S6 compared to the Note 4, and improves the ventilation system, one of the main problems of its predecessor, for which a small internal fan has been added that will prevent the lenses from fogging. The trackpad has also been modified, which now seems to show a deeper groove to facilitate its blind location, and has a small protrusion in the center, a success on the part of Samsung.
We also note that the front cover has been removed, something logical in our opinion since in practice it was rarely used since it only provided an aesthetic improvement. The new front protects the lenses from possible scratches when we do not have the S6 inserted. Finally, a microUSB port is included in the device itself that will allow charging the mobile while we use it.
