Have you received a Photoshop file that you cannot open? Fear not, because there are actually many sensible alternatives on the web that can likewise be used to open Adobe’S PSD file format. In this article you can read a description of GIMP and Paint.NET, there are 2 of the most popular and used tools for image editing.
However, it should be mentioned that even though these Photoshop alternatives can easily open PSD files, it is not always that your documents are opened quite correctly. If you still know in advance that you prefer a different image program, we therefore recommend that you use the tool’s own format so that everything works in full.
GIMP
This tool is probably the most widely used alternative to Photoshop, mainly because the program is open-source – this means that the program code is freely available to anyone who wants to use it or make modifications. GIMP supports many smart tools, filters and Adobe’S own PSD file type. You can download GIMP on our sister site DLC.dk right here.
If you want to get as close to the original as possible, there is actually also a group of developers working on Gimpshop. As a rule, it is almost the same program as GIMP, but changes have been made to the user interface, so the tool is even more similar to Adobe’s own program.
Paint.NET
Like GIMP, so is Paint.NET not open-source, but it is still free and used by many people because of its features and capabilities. For many, whether to use this or Gimp will be a matter of personal preferences and operating system, but you can download it at DLC.dk by clicking here.
What to be aware of about Paint.NET is that it does not support Photoshop files by default-fortunately, there is a smart plugin that you will find here that adds this functionality. The installation procedure is very simple, for this you just need to extract the folder of the plugin and drag the file “PhotoShop.dll ” into Paint.NETs subfolder named “FileTypes”.
