The popular GoPro cameras will soon benefit from the acquisition of Kolor, a French company specialized in virtual reality solutions and spherical media.
The Kolor software allows you to combine several photographs or videos to create spherical 360º panoramas, something that was not possible to do directly with GoPro action cameras, although it could be mounted manually. On the GoPro website you can see a spherical video with 4K resolution that shows what the Kolor software can do. There will be more videos compatible with Cardboard, Oculus Rift and Gear VR very soon.
“We’ve seen an incredible opportunity to put GoPro at the forefront of the VR movement,” says CEO Nick Woodman. “Since GoPro is already the most widely used device to capture experiences in the most immersive way possible, it is natural that we continue to take steps in that direction.”
