Contrary to what was rumored a couple of weeks ago, HTC finally confirms that the developer version of the Vive will not be available to consumers, who will have to wait until the end of the year.
It all came about as a result of an article by Fortune in which Jeff Gatis, HTC’s executive director of global marketing, stated that this summer, fans who do not want to wait for the commercial version of HTC Vive scheduled for the end of the year, could get a Developers Edition. In Road to VR they have spoken to HTC to ask them directly and they have replied that it is not like that. In fact, they have already contacted Fortune to request a rectification of the article.
“HTC is not going to make development kits available to consumers”” says the HTC representative. “I wasn’t at the interview so I’m not sure what was said, but it’s not correct.” So, we will have to wait for the arrival of the commercial version, which at least has a release date and is not far away in time. Now the ball is on the roof of the developers, who have about 6 months to create quality experiences so that the commercial version of HTC Vive will be loaded with experiences when it goes on sale at the end of the year.
