The Facebook Instagram group Meta, which also owns Instagram, announced on Wednesday that NFTs will be integrated into the Instagram Stories via the augmented reality platform Spark AR.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explains in this context that the company is “expanding the first tests so that even more content creators can flaunt their NFTs on Instagram”. Zuckerberg confirms that Facebook should definitely support NFTs in the future:
“We will be testing this feature on Facebook soon. Instagram Factsheet We start with a small group of selected creators, so that the exchange via Instagram and Facebook is possible. In addition, we will soon be testing NFTs in combination with Spark AR at Instagram Stories.“
In May, Meta had already launched its own collection of digital collectibles, which the group had described as a “completely new way for users and creators to share NFTs via Instagram”.
Earlier this week, Meta also announced that it would work with other tech companies to develop common standards for the Metaverse. The alliance therefore wants to impose its own ethical guidelines for working on Web3 and Metaverse, which should apply throughout the industry. Among the participants of the initiative are such influential names as Adobe, Epic Games, Microsoft, Nvidia and Qualcomm.Interestingly, Apple is not involved.
Meanwhile, Meta is far from the only social network working on the integration of NFTs. Competitor Twitter had already integrated the Non-Fungible Tokens (NFT) in January. For example, Twitter users can now connect their Ethereum wallets to their accounts and in this way have their NFTs displayed as profile pictures in the network.
