The two new social services that were announced in the past Oculus Connect, are now available for Gear VR, adding new possibilities for interaction with our friends.
Gear VR already has two new social functions that will make our time in the virtual world more enjoyable, by being able to communicate by voice with our friends, through Oculus Parties, or go with them to a room to be able to perform a variety of interactions together, in Oculus Rooms. With Facebook behind it, it is clear that the social facet is something very important and that is why they continue to improve their platform with new features already available in Gear VR and that will arrive in Rift in 2017.
For Oculus, the first wave of virtual reality was about the magic of presence, the immersive sense of actually being inside a virtual space. The next step is to allow us to feel that same sense of presence with other people within the virtual environment.
Voice calls with Parties allow us to talk to up to three friends at the same time, being able to be playing or performing any action at the same time. The Rooms are private places where we can spend time with our friends to carry out activities such as watching videos, playing mini-games or throwing and joining together some multiplayer game like Dragon Front or Drop Dead. More applications that support this last feature will be added in the coming months.
